The risk assessment is a crucial step towards incorporating disaster risk management and resiliency in harnessing RE. Risks as the confluence of hazards, exposures, and vulnerabilities (HEVs) that accompany any RE deployment and its operations.
Risk assessments are divided into two components, namely, direct and indirect. Direct risks focus on the energy systems and delivery, categorized into: (i) risks to RE resources and (ii) risks to energy facilities and systems. On the other hand, indirect risks consider the secondary effects of energy facilities and systems on the immediate or downstream communities and environment.
