The site suitability assessment (SSA) identifies areas for potential RE development. SSA usually begins by designing a list of criteria or assumptions applicable to a place. Different criteria per RE type were considered and subdivided into factors and constraints. Enabling criteria were categorized according to their technical-physical, physical (others), environmental, and socio-economic nature.

Factors represent favorable characteristics for RE development, while constraints are restricted or unsuitable zones for RE development to protect the environment and communities. Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) and the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) enabled the combination of factors (+) and constraints (-). Through the AHP, weights were assigned for each criterion based on experts’ opinions.
